2008 World Standards Day Paper Competition Announced

The 2008 World Standards Day Paper Competition theme has been announced by the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee and the paper competition's sponsor, the Standards Engineering Society (SES).  For details, go to the 2008 WSD Paper Competition.

The 57^th Annual SES Conference will take place during August 18-19, 2008 in sunny San Diego, California.  This year’s conference theme, “The World of Standards:  Is it Really a Zoo Out There?” will explore the diversity of issues within the standards community and provide an expert panel of speakers on a variety of topics.

SES announces the publication of SES 2:2006, Model Procedure for the Development of Standards. This new standard provides a model standards development procedure that contains all of the essential requirements of due process that a credible standards development organization should consider.  For more details or to purchase copies, visit the online store located in the Publications section of this site.

SES's New Certification Program

In keeping up with the evolving standards environment, the SES Certification Committee has revised certification requirements and made adjustments to better address the needs of the standards community. The centerpiece of  changes for the Program is a new entry-level certification that will provide a stepping-stone for many society members. 

Major highlights of Program changes are: 

• The creation of an entry-level certification program to recognize individuals who may not have many years of experience, but who are accomplished in the standards arena, and who can demonstrate a working level of knowledge and capability in such issues.
• Recognition of training and experience of standards development organization staff members.
